The community movement is quickly growing, and the people who are seeking out these types of residences are willing to invest considerably in turning their dreams into a reality. By understanding what it takes to develop the right community structures along with relational vision and cultural foundations people are looking for, there is a huge opportunity be a part of something important that will be sustainable long into the future.

Overcoming Obstacles to Developing Your Community

What Gets in the Way of Community Development

When it comes to developing a community of just about any kind, there are a lot of moving parts. On the one hand there’s all the planning, building, and zoning issues, all requiring dealing with a cast of characters with their own needs and issues. On the other, there’s the relational side of creating and communicating a vision that will resonate with residents and feel tangible long before people can physically experience it. Then there’s the nuances of individual needs, like shellshocked potential residents who have been dealt bad hands in the part. Somehow, Community Developers need to be able to tie it all together for everyone, and that requires being very skilled in some very different areas. It’s a lot, and the consequences of one key piece falling through the cracks can be detrimental.

What It Takes to Cross the Finish Line

To pull off a project from start to finish, developers have to present a calm, collected front that shows the rest of the team that all of the moving parts are under control with a clear endgame coming into focus. And they need to know how to collaborate with the right people who can fill in the gaps. An experienced builder or real estate investor can be a master at their trade but be speaking Greek to community types. And a community visionary usually finds it tough to get the nuts and bolts of real estate development together on their own. What it takes to cross the finish line is a grounded, holistic approach with a robust skill set that can get things done while remaining heart-centered.
